(Singapore) Thailand teams captured the First and Third place in the Enterprise Resource Management Challenge(ERMC) 2016 Singapore Grand Final Competition while an Indonesian team took Second position.
Eighteen(18) country champion teams - 2 each from Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines, and 6 each from Malaysia and Sinagapore converged on the University of Singapore Institute of Management(UniSIM) to compete in the Regional Semi-final and Grand-final on the 30th of September. This year's competition has attracted more than 1500 participants from over 45 universities across the SEA region.
The competition was based on MonsoonSIM Business Simulation Platform where each team competed with other teams in a virtual competitive business world. Each team consisted of 5 members, and each member managed a few of the 12 Business modules/departments being simulated in the competition. Using MonsoonSIM, teams must work together to manage their resources, and to execute their business strategies.
This year's event was hosted once again by the School of Science and Technology (SST) of SIM University together with Monsoon Academy and sponsored by SAP Asia Pacific. A total Grand Prize of $9,000.00 was given out to the Winner, 1st Runner-up, 2nd Runner-up, and 4th to 8th place finishers.

Teams in actions...
Like in the country finals, enthusiasms, eagernesses, and expectations filled the Block-C 3rd floor hallway sign-in and two large well-prepared computer rooms. This qualifying stage of the Competition kicked off on the dot after the announcement to let the game BEGIN by President Cheong Hee Kiat of SIM University. Unlike new players who are not familiar with MonsoonSIM, and making noise, the competitors were focusing on their respective roles in a quiet manner somewhat. It felt like a cool and peaceful atmosphere but in actuality, it was an intense battle ground as all of them were competing fiercely for only 8 teams can make it to the Final in the afternoon. At this point, they all were displaying their wits and strategies to meet the tough and competitive market environment. After 160 virtual days, the 8 teams who emerged as finalists were..
1) Seven Mission of Busi Luhur University, 2) Bangan of National University(Phi), 3) Brainy of Kasetsart University, 4) Jekss of UniSIM, 5) Panda of Prasetiya Mulya University, 6) Dream Team of Thai-Nichi Institute of Technology, 7) Banscorps of NUS, and 8) Juicify of Taylor's University.
The rest... 9)Peanut Butter of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, 10) M1X of Multimedia University Melaka, 11) Cheese cake of Taylor's University, 12) Spirits of UniSIM, 13) MAPUA1 of Mapua Institute of Technology, 14) New Master of Temasek Poly, 15) Sky Juice of Universiti Technologi Malaysia, 16) Spiky of UniSIM, 17) Diverse of Kaplan University, and 18) Honeystar of Universiti Technologi Malaysia all had put up a very good fight but fell short.
Teams in actions...
The Final stage of the competition in the afternoon reached its climax at around 120 virtual days when Jekss and Dream Team were neck and neck,, see sawing,, changing hands in lead... in the quest for the 3rd spot because at that point, Brainy and Panda seemed to have broken away. Down the stretch, It was excitement all the way... especially when the heat was really on after 150 virtual days of the 160 that was configured in this Final Competition. Counting down to the last virtual day and sprinting to beat the clock, Dream Team, by virtue of clicking the button for the last sale of the day, managed to turn some of its stocks into cash-in-hand which constituted 20% of the total score just in time to win by a whisker. A Real-time finish! At the end of the day, both Brainy and Panda managed to maintain their leads over Dream Team and Jekss but Brainy emerged victorious and pocketed the top prize of SGD4,000. Panda came in second with a prize of SGD2,500, and Dream Team took third place with a prize of SGD1,500. The rest of the competitors all had put up a very good fight and won a consolation prize of SGD250 each.

Provost Tsui delivering closing speech
It is heartening to note the enthusiasms that had been displayed by more than 1500 students who had taken part across South East Asia over the course of 9 months... from school playoffs to country playoffs, and to the Grand Final today. We do hope that all those students who had participated in MonsoonSIM found it fun to learn Business Processes. And we also hope that MonsoonSIM Business Process by way of Experiential Learning had helped all of them see how different modules of business can be efficiently interlinked, and how such interrelated relationships serve to raise their level of understanding in doing business. By all means, we are sure they would realize that there's more to MonsoonSIM than just Game. When all was said and done for the day, we appreciated their participations very much. The fact that they can make it to UniSIM for this ERMC 2016 Grand Final means that they were already winners. Hope they will value this experience in time to come.
This regional universities competition came about through strong collaboration between SAP and its Education Partners, SIM University, and Monsoon Academy. It has been many months in the making. Monsoon Academy is very appreciative of the hard work and concerted effort of the SIM University team which included IT and technical personnel and behind the scene staff led by Dr. Paul Wu, Dr. Jonathan Leong and Miss Shazlina. For without their passions and determinations, the whole event would not have been successful. Also, Monsoon Academy would like to thank SAP for its sponsorship on prizes in this competition.
