The ADDIE Model refers to an instructional systems design (ISD) model which runs a needs analysis that describes the process of gathering and analysing data to determine the learning and development needs within an organization, such as students and learners in schools and educational institutions worldwide.
Having proven to be a durable model that has withstood the test of time and use, the ADDIE model is undeniably helpful in supporting educators worldwide in thinking through the design of a course or curriculum. The acronym of the model, ADDIE, stands for the five different stages of the instructional design model, namely Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate.
Each stage produces an outcome that brings forth the subsequent stage.
Firstly, the analysis phase ensures that the instructional problem, instructional goals and objectives and the learning environment and the learners’ level of existing knowledge and skills are identified and established. Questions addressed in the analysis phase include: Who are your students and what are their characteristics? What learning goals do you seek to achieve? What are the types of learning constraints that exist? What’s the method of delivery for the learning process?
With MonsoonSIM’s business simulation and gamification education platform, teachers are able to directly address the analysis phase. With MonsoonSIM as the reliable method of delivery for the learning process within a classroom, teachers can simplify their teachings and allow technology to do the heavy lifting whilst achieving the learning goals set out.
Secondly, in the design phase, this concerns the learning goals, the tools for assessment, the lesson plan and content, and practices. The design phase should be executed systematically, where identification, development and evaluation of strategies to achieve the learning goals are done, and also executed meticulously with attention to every detail.
With the MonsoonSIM platform to assist education, teachers can become a facilitator and moderator for education, using their ability to configure hundreds of business scenarios to deliver the teachings of business concepts far beyond the existing learning constraints. Teachers can adopt their planned curriculum and syllabus of their schools and educational institutions into the business simulation and have MonsoonSIM with its AI-based virtual teaching assistant facilitate a wholesome experiential learning session for the learners.
The third phase is the development phase, where developers focus on the creation and assembly of the content according to their plan in the design phase. This is where programmers and creators integrate and develop the technologies to support the students’ learning and development.
At this phase, the MonsoonSIM team works tirelessly and continuously to develop, improve and enhance the business simulation platform. Dedicated to delivering the best possible experiential learning experience and support to learners worldwide, MonsoonSIM combines both technology and education into an effective tool for teachers to teach and students to learn.
The fourth phase is the implementation phase. This is where the procedure is developed for training the facilitators and learners. At this stage, facilitators will be trained on how to best cover their course curriculum, achieve their learning outcomes, manage the delivery method for teaching and also run some testing procedures. From the learners’ perspective, their preparation will encompass practicing how to use the new tool.
MonsoonSIM is wholly involved in the implementation phase, providing free and comprehensive training for facilitators in order to maximize the effectiveness of MonsoonSIM in delivering their course curriculum and achieve the learning outcomes. Facilitators will receive training on how to configure the MonsoonSIM business simulation and in turn, enhance their students’ learning experience when using MonsoonSIM.
The fifth and last phase is the evaluation phase. This evaluation phase is an essential phase of the entire ADDIE model, covering both the formative part and the summative part. Each stage of the ADDIE model already involves formative evaluation. For summative evaluation, this only takes place at the end of the implementation phase, where user feedback and suggestions for improvements can be collected and studied.
Considering the importance of evaluation for improvement and advancement, MonsoonSIM places a heavy emphasis on this stage. Through data analytics support with live data access, encouraging community support through Clubs, Leagues and Ratings, as well as the availability of pre-packaged courses and quizzes, MonsoonSIM is ready and prepared to assist teachers and students alike through the ease and convenience of measuring and monitoring the learners’ progress.
To find out more about MonsoonSIM’s business simulation and how it facilitates a unique experiential learning, you are cordially invited to observe a live demo and see firsthand the switching in a typical experiential learning and teaching process at the Gamification Europe 2021 conference, where MonsoonSIM’s CEO and Founder, Mr. Abdy Taminsyah, will be delivering the presentation “Real-time switching between gamification and simulation modes for effective experiential learning”!
