Singapore, Oct 26 -- The 1st virtual, 6th overall MERMC ended on a high note last Friday when18 MonsoonSIM Business Experiential Learning teams competed against one another for the top prize and a place in the e-MERMC Regional Final in December 2020.

After 2 rounds of fierce competition, BioHaZarD of Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) is e-MonsoonSIM Enterprise Resource Management Competition (e-MERMC) Singapore Final 2020 CHAMPION, outperforming the other 17 teams by scoring the highest number of points from 10 business KPI targets set for the day.

MERMC aims to encourage students to experientially learn Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) via Gamification, and to incubate future ERP talents. Through the fun and interactive cloud-based MonsoonSIM platform, the students experience managing virtual companies in real time, and learn how 13 different business modules of the latest MonsoonSIM V8 – Finance, Production, Material Requirements Planning(MRP), Warehousing and Logistics, Forecasting, Procurement, Asset Maintenance, Retail, Wholesaling, e-Commerce, Marketing, Human Resources, and Customer Service – are integrated.

A total of 90 participants in 18 teams of 5-player each from 3 universities -- Singapore Polytechnic (SP), Republic Polytechnic (RP), and Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) -- were drawn into 2 groups (9 teams each) to compete in the morning Round 1 (30%) and afternoon Round 2 (70%). The total combined score of both rounds determined the results.

From the get-go, every team was eyeing the Champion Prize of SGD1,000, as well as a place in the Regional Grand Final when bigger prizes will be awarded for winning.

Getting off to a good start in any competition is crucial. Round 1 of the competition came with 80 virtual days at 45 seconds per day setting, and even though it constituted only 30% of the total score, the competitors can't afford to let loose their concentration because every point counts. At around 55 virtual days, BioHaZarD of SUSS in Group 1 and XHH of SUSS in Group 2 took the lead and never looked back. When time's up, both teams finished top in their respective groups.

The real battle of the day began in Round 2 (70% of total score) after the lunch break. Many carefully calculated and aggressive moves were seen over the 100 virtual days at 50 seconds per day setting. Observers can feel the intensity even in the early stages which saw the teams' scores swinging up and down. It was an all-out effort as every team was determined to win using all the skills and strategies plus the best of teamwork they had learned from earlier practices. But there can be only one Champion. Towards the end, BioHazarD of SUSS who also finished first in its group in Round 1, pulled away from the rest and emerged as CHAMPION as it had clearly demonstrated the best overall performance compared to all, followed by Cai Png also of SUSS, and JES of RP.

Congratulations to the winners!

The rest of the competitors all had put up a good fight despite falling short of the goal. I am sure that MonsoonSIM Experiential Learning through simulation and gamification had helped them understand how ERP works and realize there's more to MonsoonSIM than just GAME. When all was said and done for the day, we appreciated their participation. They all are winners and will remember this experience.

The top 7 finishers of this Final will represent Singapore to meet with competitors online from the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, and new comer Taiwan in the Regional Grand Final in November and December this year.
