MERMC Final Philippines 2019

Last edited: 2023-Jun-15

Manila (Philippines), July 8 -- Like previous years, it was once again an exciting atmosphere last Saturday when hopeful participants came together to compete against one another in business simulation for their spot in -- MonsoonSIM Enterprise Resource Management Competition (MERMC) International Grand Final Hong Kong 2019.

MERMC aims to encourage students to experientially learn Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) via Gamification, and to incubate future ERP talents. Through the fun and interactive cloud-based MonsoonSIM platform, the students experience managing virtual companies in real time, and learn how 13 different business modules of the latest MonsoonSIM V7 – Finance, Production, Material Requirements Planning(MRP), Warehousing and Logistics, Forecasting, Procurement, Asset Maintenance, Retail, Wholesaling, e-Commerce, Marketing, Human Resources, and Customer Service – are interlinked.

This year, eight teams of 5-player each from four universities in the Manila area were specially selected to compete for the top spots in the 2019 MERMC Philippines final at National University - Manila.

1. Centro Escolar University (CEU)

     - CEU 1 & CEU 2

2. Far Eastern University (FEU)

     -  Amihan & Habagat

3. San Beda College - Alabang

     - Team SBCA

4. National University (NU)

     - Ghetto, Phil & Bironica

Studying matrix of the day

The battle for supremacy of the day involved two sessions of about an hour each:

> Session A -- constituted 30% of the final score, and

> Session B -- consituted 70% of the final score.

Getting off to a good start in any competition is very important. The competitors knew it and knew it well. There was an intensity in the air from the early stages of session A which saw teams scores swing up and down. After the midway point, Amihan of FEU broke away from the pack and excelled, leaving the rest fighting for the second best. In the second session, session B, the same scenario happened again.

Teams in action....

At the end, it was Amihan of FEU who came up on top followed by the other FEU team. The two NU teams landed in the 3rd and 4th spots. It is worth nothing that Amihan has been consistent through out and once they broke away, they never looked back. It is also worth noting that Phil of NU who finished last in the 30% first session, managed to fight back in the 70% second session to finish third overall.

The rest of the competitors all had put up a very high-spirited fight and deserve praise. I am confident that MonsoonSIM ERP by way of Experiential Learning had helped them see how enterprise business works. By all means, I am sure they would realize that there's more to MonsoonSIM than just GAME. When all was said and done for the day, we appreciated their participation very much. The fact that they can make it to NU for this Country Final, they were already winners. I am sure they will value this experience in time to come.

Champion, Amihan of FEU

1st Runner-up, Habagat of FEU

 2nd Runner-up, Phil of NU

Congratulations to the winners!
